Core Web Vitals Explained: How to Make Your Website Faster

Speed affects everything: bounce rate, conversions and search visibility. Google’s Core Web Vitals measure the real experience of your visitors.
The three metrics
- Largest Contentful Paint (LCP): how quickly the main content appears.
- Interaction to Next Paint (INP): how quickly the page responds to taps and clicks. INP replaced First Input Delay in March 2024.
- Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS): whether content jumps while loading.
How to check
Use PageSpeed Insights for individual pages and the Core Web Vitals report in Google Search Console for real-user data across your site.

Common fixes
Images
Serve correctly sized, compressed images in modern formats and lazy-load anything below the fold.
Scripts
Remove unused plugins and apps, defer non-critical JavaScript and limit third-party widgets.
Hosting and caching
Good hosting, page caching and a CDN make a big difference, especially for international audiences.
Layout stability
Set dimensions for images, embeds and ads, and avoid inserting content above what is already visible.
